BOWLING GREEN ALUMNAE CHAPTER

DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC.

About Bowling Green Alumnae Chapter

The Bowling Green, Kentucky Alumnae Chapter was chartered on May 15, 1993 under the auspices of Soror Maxine Hardin. She and her husband recently moved to the city from Spokane, Washington where she was an active member of the Spokane Alumnae Chapter. Prior to the chartering, sorors in the area were members-at-large or affiliated with the Paducah Alumnae Chapter. Fifteen sorors came together in January 1992 to begin planning procedures for chartering the chapter. A chartering program was held on 15 May 1993 and included an official charter ceremony, installation of officers, a luncheon, and workshops by the Midwest regional director Soror Sharon Chapman; a reception followed. The State Coordinator Soror Janet Tandy provided the welcome at the chartering program, a presentation of the Bowling Green Alumnae Chapter to the community by Soror Chapman, and recognition of community supporters by Soror Ethel Leatherman. The Officers at the time were as followed: Maxine Hardin, President; Phyllis Gatewood, Vice President; Monica Pettygrue, Recording Secretary; Beverly Dillard, Corresponding Secretary; Vonda Victor, Treasurer; Angela Nevels, Historian; Martha Robey Sales, Custodian; Ann Grey, Sergeant at Arms/Parliamentarian. The other chapter members were: Kay Alexander, Francyenne Ashley, Lou-Ann Crouther, Cheryl Keyes, Ethel Leatherman, Charisse Neal, Beverly Ragland, and Alice Waddell.

The Bowling Green Alumnae Chapter has been influential to the community since their inception with a plethora of programs that relate to the sorority’s five point thrust. Some of the key programs are: World Aids Day, International Women’s Day events, Delta G.E.M.S, Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, voter registrations, domestic violence awareness programs with BRASS, Inc., Founders Day celebrations, Habitat for Humanity, the Minority Mentor Training Program of Warren County, Juneteenth, Black History Month, Kwanzaa, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Programs.
